On his way from Beersheba to Haran, Jacob came to a certain place and after sunset he put his head on a stone and fell asleep. In his dream "a ladder was set up on the earth and its top reached to heaven, and the angels of God were ascending and descending on it." (Genesis 28, 12)
On top of the ladder God had appeared to Jacob and blessed him. The next morning Jacob set up the stone on which he slept as a pillar and poured oil on top of it. He named the place 'Bethel' (in Hebrew - 'Beit El', which means "the house of God"), and made a vow of faith.
Jacob is lying down at the bottom of the pendant, his head is on a stone, and at his feet a ladder is set up while 3 gold made angels with a diamond inlaid in each are climbing on it.
