Collection: Ornaments

This collection presents pieces inspired by different kinds of ornaments and decorations that caught my eye, from ancient to modern times.

The Italian city of Ravenna served as the capital of the western Roman Empire from 402 AD until its downfall in 476. After which it served as the capital of the Ostrogothic Kingdom and was re-conquered in 540 AD by the Byzantine Empire. Thus, it is known for its well-preserved late Roman and Byzantine architecture. A good example is the 6th century Basilica of San Vitale that several pieces presented here are inspired by patterns found in its huge marble columns.
