When king David had decided to bring the ark of the covenant from the house of Obed-Edom to the city of David, Michal, late king Saul's daughter, looked through a window and saw him 'leaping and whirling' before the Lord. The general atmosphere was of dancing and shouting with the sound of the trumpet, but Michal despised him in her heart. After placing the ark in the tabernacle that was made for it, and after offering and blessing the people, David went back to his house. Michal went out to meet him and criticized his behavior that she found not suitable for a king. But David answered that his deeds were made before God who appointed him ruler over the people of Israel, and "therefore I will play music before the Lord". (2 Samuel 6, 21)
