This pair of earrings is inspired by a form within the ancient marble columns in the Basilica of San Vitale in Ravenna, Italy. The Basilica is a 6th century AD magnificently decorated Byzantine building. Ravenna served as the capital city of the Western Roman Empire from 402 AD until its downfall in 476. After which it served as the capital of the Ostrogothic Kingdom and was reconquered in 540 AD by the Byzantine Empire. Thus, it is known for its well-preserved Late Roman and Byzantine architecture and art.
